Hello from Hanoi! Yes, I am currently sitting in my Air BNB in Hanoi Old Quarter with a belly full of Banh Mi Hanoi, and decided that I really should share the best locations that I’ve found to get Banh Mi Hanoi around the city.

Over the past couple of weeks in this glorious city we’ve been all over the Old Quarter, and some of the best Banh Mi we have found hasn’t been the “flashy” places that are splashed all over social media, or that attract the majority of tourists. The places on this list are easy to find, won’t have line ups, and in at least 3 cases will be the cheapest Banh Mi Hanoi you will find.
So if you are visiting Hanoi on a budget, or just want to find some Banh Mi Hanoi places that are off the tourist radar, then check out some of these!
Banh Mi Tam Beo Bakery
The fact is that Banh Mi in Hanoi is amazing, and was one of the very first things that we wanted to try as soon as we touched down at the airport. Upon arriving on the bus in the Old Quarter, we hit one of the carts nearest to our accommodation, and lucked upon an amazing sample of Banh Mi Hanoi. It still ranks in our top 5, and hence holds a place on this list!
This place is just past the lake as you head East to West across the Old Quarter, and can be easily stumbled upon if you are heading toward Train Street Hanoi.
Banh Mi Teo Bakery is, essentially, a cart. It is parked outside a small restaurant, so they are not technically a cart, and do a lot of the preparation in behind in the building. But, the Banh Mi is incredible, and prices are cheap, as you would expect.
You can find them at THIS Google Maps location.
Banh Mi B+
Located just down the road – literally only a block, from Banh Mi Tam Beo Bakery, this place is another great example of Banh Mi Hanoi that you can get from a cart.
Once again, this is a very cheap Banh Mi, and great if you’re staying in the area on a budget. I’ve never seen them overly busy, and they whip up a very tasty Banh Mi in a flash.
One of the bonuses of Banh Mi B+ is that they are also open very early in the morning, making them a great option for getting breakfast. We actually stopped there on the way to the bus station for an early morning bus to Sapa. Being one of the only places open that early meant they really got us out of a jam!

Banh Mi Pho
I’ve stumbled across Banh Mi Pho at at few locations around Hanoi, which means that they are actually a bit of a chain. There are only about 3 of them that I could find though, so I’m willing to give them a pass on that. Plus, the fact that the Banh Mi Hanoi that they turn out is amazing is a huge bonus in my book.
The original branch that I came across was actually on the way home from Train Street one night. It is located at THIS Google Maps location.
Banh Mi Pho really reminded me of a Subway store from back home, except the Vietnamese Banh Mi version, and nothing alike in reality.
The pick of their menu is definitely the Bo Nuong Pho-Mai, which is a Grilled Minced Beef with Cheese Banh Mi, and literally melts in your mouth. I guess that’s why it’s a best seller, as is noted on the menu you can find above.
Banh Mi 25
Banh Mi 25 is one of the most popular Banh Mi restaurants in the city, and for that reason I was actually reluctant to put it on this list. I like to recommend places away from the normal tourist trail, and concentrate on budget locations. This is not a classic budget location, but the Banh Mi IS very good.
Hence the reason for it’s inclusion at #2 on my list.
Banh Mi 25 can be found toward the northern end of the Old Quarter at THIS Google Maps location.
The popularity of Banh Mi 25 can be seen in the fact that they have not just 1, but 3 shops covering both sides of the street at the same location. They have a large menu, with many different options that will cover the needs and tastes of just about anyone. There’s also Vegetarian options and the chance to “Build your own” Banh Mi.
Banh My Pho Co
This location is my real hidden gem Banh Mi Hanoi location. I stumbled upon it one night when I had just ordered a very under par Pho for dinner, and needed to eat a bit more. Located right in the heart of Old Quarter, just near the lake, it’s a place you would probably walk past on a normal day.
Banh My Pho Co, doesn’t look like much, but it’s by far my favorite Banh Mi in Hanoi Old Quarter. It’s also the cheapest that I’ve found, with my pork Banh Mi only costing a measly 25,000 Dong.

Summary
There are some amazing places to find Banh Mi Hanoi in the Old Quarter. Most of them are not the normal tourist traps, and the cheapest options that are loved by the locals are often the best examples of one of Vietnam’s favorite food.
