My first thoughts when I arrived at Amnaya Resort Benoa was how relaxed and comfortable I felt. I had only just arrived, and little did I know that this was just the beginning. To say that Amnaya go out of their way to make you feel at home would be an understatement, because, as I was about to find out, making their guests comfortable is what they are all about.

I arrived at Amnaya early. There was a morning Yoga class and I had a spot reserved. This is, after all, the only fully appointed Yoga Studio in Benoa, so I was intrigued. Arriving so early, I was still mentally brushing the cobwebs from my mind and wondering if the Yoga was really worth it. From the moment I walked up the stairs, though, I began to realize that my fears were totally unfounded. Walking into Amnaya Resort Benoa had me feeling as if I was walking into a totally different world.
Amnaya Resort Benoa – What to expect
Upon arrival, guests will notice the spacious and well appointed lobby. Off to one side were sitting areas that gave me the impression of total comfort and relaxation. It certainly was not like many other resorts where guests feel shunted to one side as staff try not to think about them. It was obvious that this hotel had guests and visitors in mind, and the tingling of intrigue that had begun to tickle at the back of my mind, was now rising into full blown interest. I wanted to know what else was behind the curtain.
Check in was easy. In this day and age it was nice, and certainly comforting, to see the staff adhering strictly to their Covid protocols. Every surface was wiped down and sanitizer was available at every turn. Even the check in itself was streamlined so as to require the least amount of contact possible. Within a few minutes of arriving, my partner and I were already being led out of the lobby and guided toward our suite.
And if I thought the lobby was impressive, then I was NOT ready for what was waiting for me in room 205 of the Amnaya Resort Benoa….
The Rooms
The room we had checked into was one of their Junior Suites. All I can say is that it was amazing. I have stayed in many large and luxurious resorts in Bali, and the Amnaya Resort Benoa is certainly right up there with some of the best. The Junior Suite exceeded our expectations, and almost immediately upon entering, I began to wonder why I had only booked for one night.
The entry to the suite leads into a sitting room equipped with table and chairs, built in wall sofa, and mini bar complete with coffee and tea facilities. Separating the sitting room from the main bedroom is an island with a large screen tv installed on top. The TV swivels in a full 360 degree so you have the ability to watch from the lounge, or the bed.
The bed itself is full King size, and I must say that it, along with the pillows, was one of the most comfortable that I have ever slept in. Behind the bed, tucked away out of sight behind the bedhead are the built in robes with safe, and on the other side of the room is the open plan bathroom.
At first, the bathroom seems to have a total lack of privacy. The shower and toilet, however, have frosted glass walls and doors, and there is a heavy curtain that can be drawn right across the room. So, in fact, there was total privacy after all. The bath is large and comfortable, and the bathroom vanity is equipped with everything that you would expect from a Hotel of this standard.
Taking a step out onto the balcony, to one side is a nicely tucked away and cozy daybed, while the balcony itself has a table, chairs, and drying rack. The view into the inner courtyard is laced with palms and ponds, offering a calm and tranquil atmosphere.
I was totally in awe of the Junior suite, and really thought I had hit the jackpot with my booking. There is, however, a suite ABOVE the Junior suite called the Amnaya Suite, and I vow to check that suite out upon my return!
Bhava Spa
The Bhava Spa at Amnaya Resort Benoa is simply class and elegance. I cannot think of another way to describe it. If you are the sort of person that enjoys the facilities that a normal Spa provides, then you will be absolutely blown away by Bhava Spa. Put simply, I believe that it is the best Spa I have been to in Bali.
The fact that this facility is in Benoa, and not in an area of Bali such as Ubud, that is famous for its Spa’s and wellness centers, is extraordinary in itself. Amnaya Resort Benoa really is just like a little piece of Ubud, only better!
As a part of Bhava Spa there is a Healing method available called Sound Bath healing. I had never heard of this before, and my intrigue was only heightened when I learnt that this method is not available anywhere else in Indonesia. Indeed, it is a first for the entire country, not just Bali.
Sound Healing is a traditional method of healing, utilizing the vibrations from singing bowls to tune the body. This treatment is very effective to cure such ailments as anxiety and insomnia. Indeed, many people drop right off to sleep during the treatment. Personally, my skin tingled for the entire 45 minutes, and I felt completely relaxed afterwards. It is definitely a treatment that is worth checking out!
The spa itself boasts signature treatments derived from holistic health traditions of Indonesia, Japan, China, Thailand and India. The staff are experts, and every ingredient that is used, from the body scrubs to the bath rituals, are all natural. If staying in a resort with great Spa facilities is important to you, then you cannot go wrong with Amnaya Resort Benoa, because Bhava Spa go above and beyond. You simply will not find better in Bali.
Sukun Restaurant
The restaurant at Amnaya Resort Benoa is out of this world. The Chef is extremely talented, and after chatting with him on a couple of occasions during our stay, it became obvious that he is passionate about his work. We ate two meals there, and simply could not fault either.
Our dinner consisted of Crispy Duck and Chicken Sate. Both were cooked to perfection, and the Sticky Rice dessert was beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Breakfast the next morning was no different, and the spread of freshly baked croissants and pastries, fresh fruit and juices had our mouths watering from the start. This was topped off by Avocado Toast, and an Eggs Benedict that was among the best that I have ever eaten. Needless to say, I complimented the chef before I left!
The restaurant itself has to be praised as well for both its layout, and its adherence to the current covid protocols. All staff displayed great sanitary practices, and the spacing of tables made social distancing easy and comfortable. The high ceilings allowed the breeze to flow nicely through the open space, and the leafy and earthy décor gave the entire restaurant a comfortable and relaxed feel.
The big question when it comes to restaurants such as this is money for value. I definitely feel there was great value at Sukun Restaurant. There was plenty of food, something that always worries me with fine dining, and the prices are not over the top. In fact, I felt they were on the low side for a place of such quality as Sukun.
Amnaya Resort Benoa – Facilities
The rooms, spa, and restaurant are only the start at Amnaya Resort Benoa. A short walk through a gardened courtyard will bring you to a large area that houses their state of the art, air conditioned gym with fully equipped Yoga studio perched on top.
The gym really speaks for itself, with all of the modern equipment that will keep any fitness minded guests happy. The Yoga studio, however, is something that is rare in the Benoa area. We attended the morning class and were very surprised by both the airy and relaxed studio, and the knowledgeable and professional Instructor. It is no wonder that they already have a large local following, so make certain to book when you arrive if you want to attend a class!
Opposite the gym is a large, open aired bar area, that sits beside the beautiful tropical Amnaya Pool. This is located inside a secluded and walled compound, and the ambience, along with the vibe will have you thinking that you are in a private day club. Sun lounges are located in and around the pool, along with curtained day beds. A waterfall flows off to one side and fountains offer the constant tranquility of trickling water that will allow you to drift off to sleep as you enjoy the warmth of the Benoa sun.
