LEKE LEKE WATERFALL – Your Complete Guide

Leke Leke Waterfall in Bali is one that had been on our list for quite some time. It is a place that words cannot describe, and photos simply do not do justice to. The photos and posts we had seen previously on Instagram and Facebook of Leke Leke did not even come close to preparing us for the beauty and tranquility that this Waterfall provides.

If you have ever come across any of the many lists online of “top ten Waterfalls in Bali” or any similar posts, then Leke Leke Waterfall will always be featured. If not, then the author of the post probably has not visited them yet. Simply put, Leke Leke Waterfall is one of the most amazing waterfalls we have visited in Bali. It isn’t the highest, or the most powerful. It doesn’t have the amount of water of some others, and isn’t as famous. What is DOES have is an understated beauty and tranquility that simply is not found anywhere else.

How to get to Leke Leke Waterfall

Leke Leke Waterfall is actually very easy to find. We had passed the turnoff several weeks earlier, in fact, whilst heading for Munduk on another amazing waterfall discovery trip. Having seen the signs we vowed to return as soon as possible and are very glad we did.

To get to Leke Leke Waterfall, take the road from Canggu or Kuta toward Mengwi. From Mengwi follow the signs toward Bedugal or Singaraja. About 30 minutes up the road you will begin to see signs for Secret Garden, and then Leke Leke Waterfall. The turnoff to the Falls are just past Secret Garden. The road is just a small gang that might be hard to miss, however is signposted. There is a small warung on the corner called Warung Babi Genyol, and if you are after a bite to eat, the Babi Genyol is to die for!!

Follow the gang through the village and it will eventually lead you directly to the Waterfall entrance. You can’t miss it as there is a quaint little Balinese hut with a large sign saying Leke Leke Waterfall along with the ticket window.

Entrance to Leke Leke Waterfall

The current price for Leke Leke at time of writing is 50k Rupe. Normally it is about 30k Rupe, however when we visited it had just been reopened after Covid-19. Bali had been doing it tough, and still is, so we didn’t blink at the price. Either way, the entrance fee is worth it for these amazing falls.

Once you have paid your fee, head under the Waterfall sign and down the path where you will find a very nice restaurant. Here you can have a bite to eat or buy some refreshments for the short hike ahead. Remember to take a bag with you so you can bring any rubbish back out.

Also at the entrance and along the beginning of the hike you will find a swing and a few nice places for photos. These are beginning to be common features at any waterfalls and tourist spots in Bali, but unlike some others, at Leke Leke they are tactful and do not spoil the experience.

The hike to the falls is relatively short, and unlike a lot of waterfalls in Bali does not consist of hundreds of stairs. Instead you will find yourself traversing through the back of the village, with chickens and cows keeping you company. Cross over a quaint bamboo bridge and find yourself in deeper jungle, just before the sound of the falls reaches your ears.

What to expect at Leke Leke Waterfall

Your first sight of the Waterfall will be from the path as it winds down to them. Our first impressions were just “wow”. The sight mesmerizes you and it actually takes an effort to drag yourself from the spell you are under to push yourself down to the falls themselves.

At the base of the falls there is a large rock that you can climb on top of. It is perfect for photos, and these are the most photogenic falls we have come across in Bali. Take your shots from the base of the falls or hike a little back up the path for the best shots framed by the jungle foliage.

It is possible to swim at the falls, but the pool isn’t really that big. There are, however, small bamboo change rooms/toilets that are tactfully tucked away off to the side of the path on the approach to the Waterfall if you want to give it a go.

Where to stay for Leke Leke Waterfall

Being in such a central place, there are plenty of areas to stay that are relatively close by. Bedugal is just up the road and provides a handy location close by. Of the southern region, Canggu and Seminyak are the closest of the Tourist hub areas, and Ubud is also only a short drive away.

Of special interest for those Instagrammers, Handara Gates are also only 30 minutes up the road and could easily be combined with a trip to Leke Leke Waterfall as a great day out. If you are of a mind and don’t mind spending the money, Handara Golf Resort also provides a nice place to stay.

So get along to Leke Leke on your next trip to Bali. It is a simply amazing experience, and one that you don’t want to miss!
