About The Huskitory

The Huskitory is a showroom and gallery for Huskies and a few other similar breeds of dog. It was founded in 2010, and has gone on to become an award winning showroom for Huskies in Malaysia and South East Asia.

Among their many awards, proudly displayed on the walls inside, are:

  • Champion Husky of A2O (Asia and Oceania)
  • Champion Husky in Malaysia 2018,19,20,21,22,23

The showroom of Huskies is open to the public, where you can visit for the chance to cuddle, play, feed and interact with these amazing dogs. They are extremely well trained, and even know how to pose for the right photos at the right times!

Where is The Huskitory?

The Huskitory is located in Malacca, Malaysia. It is easily reached by car from the city center. A trip in a GRAB Car only takes about 15 minutes.

If you are driving yourself, then HERE is a Google Maps location.

For those that wish to visit the Huskitory from Kuala Lumpur, you can catch a bus from KLIA or KLIA2 easily. Buses only cost 24RM (at time of writing) and take you to Melaka Sentral bus terminal which is only a short distance from the city center, and a short GRAB ride from The Huskitory.

The added bonus is that you will also get to spend the day in beautiful Malacca as well!

What to expect

Expect a wonderful and rewarding experience!

When you turn up, you will approach the reception desk in the front yard. There, they will check your booking (assuming you have booked) and take payment if necessary. You will then be asked to wait in the side yard if you are early.

When your time slot comes around, you will have to take off your shoes and socks, leaving them outside the door. Put them a little to one side if you can, as that will avoid anyone (including dogs) stepping on them.

Inside, you will be shown to your own little table and spot to sit while waiting. This works really well, as every guest has their own little space to interact with the Huskies and there is no fighting for room. Take a few minutes to browse around at the awards lining the walls, and a nice display about the Husky breed and history.

Staff will give a small presentation for you about how to interact with the dogs, and what to expect. There are small packets of dried dog food available for you to buy for only a couple of RM, and trust me, this is the BEST way to ensure that you get plenty of attention from the dogs!

After a few minutes the front door will open and the Husky Tsunami begins, as about 20 large Huskies come bolting into the room! It’s fun to watch, and you won’t help but laugh at how happy they seem to be running into a room full of adorable people. I’m sure that fact that they know we have all just purchased packets of food for them has a LOT to do with it too.

Over the next hour or so, you will have plenty of time to interact with, pat, play and feed the Huskies. Some of them know neat little tricks to pose for photos. Staff will help you out by getting the dogs to sit for you, and show you some of the poses you can try. They don’t like to touch your phones or cameras though, so make sure you have a friend or someone to help you take photos.

One thing that I loved was to see every single Huskie’s different personality. Even when feeding them, you could tell the trouble makers, the cheeky ones, and the ones that had just a little more patience. If you don’t manage to fall in love with at least one or two of them, if not all, then you are doing something wrong!

Interesting to note is that there are a couple of dogs at The Huskitory that are not actually Huskies. When we were there, there was one little Pomeranian, who didn’t look AT ALL out of place amongst the bigger dogs. There was also a beautiful Samoyed by the name of Molly that we totally fell in love with.

Wrapping it up

Towards the end, staff will announce that you only have a few minutes left. Don’t panic, as this is just a signal that you should look for final photos. They will bring out a camera on a tripod, and you will have your chance to line up for your own group photo of all the dogs. Check the photo at the top of this article to see what I mean. I couldn’t believe the dogs are so well trained that they sit for this photo with hardly any coaxing!

Also during this period, if available, you might be treated to another surprise. We were very lucky, and one staff member appeared with two adorable 3 week old Husky puppies. They completely stole the show for us! This would, of course, only happen if there happen to be puppies there at the time you visit.

Do I need to book?

I would advise to book ahead of time, and actually, when we rang them they asked us to book even though we were heading directly there. They do take walk ins, so without booking you might miss your time slot by a walk in while you are actually in the GRAB car on the way.

Booking is easy done online, and payment will secure your spot. If not, you can pay when you arrive. Just be aware that your spot will not be secured until you have.

Opening times for The Huskitory are:

Prices for The Huskitory

The Huskitory can be considered a little expensive as an attraction in Malacca, however keep in mind that the money goes to a good cause in the care of these amazing dogs. Plus, in my opinion it was worth it!

At time of writing the entry price for a session was RM35. For children RM28.

If you want to buy food it only costs a couple of RM for a small bag of food.

You can take your own photos, however if you want the special group photo at the end of the session with all the dogs, it will cost you 20RM. If you would like a hard copy AND a digital copy, it will cost 35RM.

Where to stay

Malacca is a wonderful place to visit in Malaysia, and really flies under the radar for tourist destinations. With so much to see and do, there are plenty of great hotels catering to all budget levels.

When visiting The Huskitory, you probably will want to see more of Malacca while you are there, especially if staying the night. Being only a short and cheap GRAB or Taxi ride from the center, my recommendation is to stay in the center where most of the best attractions are. We did this when we visited, and it was easy to schedule our day around the available time slots to go and visit the Huskies.

Here are some great suggestions for places to stay in Malacca.

Luxury

CASA DEL RIO MELAKA HOTEL

Beautiful hotel in a great location near Jonker Street. The Infinity pool is a big hit with guests, as are the amazing rooftop views out over the river and the famous lights of Melacca.

Mid Range

LIU MEN HOTEL MELAKA

A wonderful Boutique Hotel right near to Jonker Street and the main attractions. Staff are friendly and caring, bedrooms large and comfortable, and the entire place just feels like home.

Budget

Not quite as low as backpacker budget, but you will get your money’s worth from this hotel that is located literally right in the center of it all. With a convenience store right opposite, and the red church almost next door you can’t go wrong if you are looking for something cheap.
