From all of our travels, places we have been and sights we have seen, the questions that we keep getting from our readers seem to be the same.
“How do you have time to see them all?”
The answer? Timing and Planning. You see, a lot of the waterfalls that we write about are very close together, and in many cases all located along the same river. In the case of many of the waterfalls in Ubud, they are located only 10 minutes drive from each other. Some even less!
So now we have decided to share a couple of our secrets and give you an insight into how we fit so many waterfalls into a day or two away from home. A lot of planning goes into it, but really all it takes is to be organized and ready to go. With that being said, sit back and enjoy this, our ultimate Ubud Waterfall Itinerary!

Wondering how to get around in Bali?
My suggestion is by Scooter. You can get anywhere on the island on a scooter, and you can easily hire one at this link. If you have an international driver’s permit, then you are set to go! Your other option is to hire a car and a driver. You can get one right here, and organize your day out in air-conditioned comfort! Either way, you will enjoy your day and get to see a bit of this wonderful island. As always, make sure that you have your Travel Insurance up to date as well.
Ubud Waterfall Itinerary – Day 1
Like all of our itineraries, these are self driven, so we hope you have your car or scooter organized. For a lot of our waterfalls, we recommend scooter as they can be hard to find or access with a car. In this case, though, you will find all these Falls easy enough to get to with a car.
Get an early start from your accommodation because the Waterfalls will start right out of the blocks. Set your GPS for this location, because we are starting you off with big and popular!
Tegenungan Waterfall is one of the most well known waterfalls in Bali. It is one of the most powerful, especially in the wet season, as well as being one of the most established waterfalls on the island. Hopefully you will have gotten an early start today, because Tegenungan can get busy with tour buses and Daytripper’s, so you want to try and beat the crowds. Be aware that these falls also feature a lot of stairs to get right down to their base, but when it comes to waterfalls in Bali, this has to always be expected.
Next, we are taking you only about 10 minutes up the road to one of our favorite waterfalls in Bali. This is one that we stumbled upon in the region and was only opened to the public in August 2020. In fact, we were among the first ever public visitors to these Falls.
Uma Anyar Waterfall is a double tiered waterfall that is spectacular and amazing for photo opportunities. They are not hard to access, with the local villagers creating an easy path with rock stairs all the way down. Take a local guide with you, simply because you will want someone to take plenty of photos while you get up close and personal, sitting in the rushing water and bathing under the Falls.
Next up is another short drive of only 5 minutes or so. Located in the same village, Sumampan Waterfall is sure to impress you.
This single chute of water falls from the canopy of the jungle into a shallow pool surrounded by large rock carvings. Sumampan waterfall is not a natural waterfall, instead created by the run off from the local rice paddies. If anything, it was created by accident and, like Uma Anyar, only recently opened to the public.
Take care when walking to Sumampan Waterfall, as the access track and stairs can be narrow and steep in places.
That’s it for today. Head for Ubud to check into your accommodation and have an early night, because we are up bright and early tomorrow!
Day 2
Arise early so you can beat the crowds to todays first waterfall. If you don’t you can expect a line up, because it is one of the most popular in Bali for photos.
Kanto Lampo Waterfall is not far out of Ubud and located just outside the village of Gianyar. It is a spectacular waterfall that we are certain you would recognize from the hundreds of photos on Instagram. Get your photos taken, and if there isn’t a huge crowd enjoy it for a while. Don’t linger too long, though, because there is a surprise just up the road.
Next stop for Day 2 of our Ubud Waterfall Itinerary is Goa Rang Reng Waterfall.
This waterfall really took us by surprise. We knew from photos it was going to be good, but we never expected what was dished up. There are more than just the one waterfall at Goa Rang Reng, but in order to see it all you have to be friendly and personable at the ticket office. You see, you will need a guide if you are to find the other, hidden waterfalls and canyon that are nearby, and there are not that many guides to go around. Therefore, they only offer the service to the friendliest of visitors.
The guide will cost you $150k Rupe, but is worth every bit of it. Not only will they take you down the canyon, take amazing photos for you and tell you about the area, but when you return to the main waterfall they will show you all it’s hidden features, including a natural jacuzzi, and the safe way to climb onto the waterfall for those priceless photos.
Next stop, and the last one for today is Tibumana Waterfall. The road into this waterfall is worth the drive in itself, as it runs through one of the cutest and tidiest little villages we have seen, and then through palm trees and Rice Paddies that are just begging for you to stop and take photos of.
The waterfall itself is amazing. These Falls are a perfectly straight curtain of water that you are sure to think are artificial. You will be partially right, and while it’s true this waterfall was always here, the water has been recently diverted to form the one, perfect waterfall we have today. Definitely worth a photo or two and a great spot for a swim to finish the day.

Day 3
So. Day 3 of our Ubud Waterfall Itinerary has arrived!
Today is basically your trip home, but not before we check out a couple more waterfalls that we don’t want to miss.
First, set GPS for this location. Bandung Waterfall is not a very well known waterfall, but it is on the road to our main feature of today, and definately worth the stop.
This waterfall has not been open for very long. Recently it has been seeing some upgrades to the facilities, with viewing platforms and change rooms being installed. When we visited this was all still in progress, but the Falls were worth checking out. For a quick tip, climb down to the base of the Falls through a hole in the large rock in front of them to get up close and personal.
Next, the main feature of the day before you head home. Suwat Waterfall.
This waterfall is a personal favorite of many. Featuring a beautiful straight cascade of water into a seemingly perfect green pool, it is amazing for photos and the brilliant place for a swim. Even the rocks that surround the pool have that mossy green ambience and are carved into the shapes of giant turtles. In fact, this place is so beautiful that there are often weddings held here.
So that is it for our Ubud Waterfall Itinerary. However….
If you still aren’t finished and want to fit in another amazing waterfall, you could take a drive over to Tukad Cepung Waterfall. This is one of the best waterfalls in Bali, but is also one that you will most likely have to line up at for photos. It features a waterfall not unlike Suwat Waterfall, however it is INSIDE a cavern that you have to access by walking up a gorge.
We did not include it in this Ubud Waterfall itinerary simply because it could take most of your day, and is worthy of it’s own day trip.
We hope you have enjoyed our Ubud Waterfall Itinerary. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions, and as always check the links below for some great accommodation suggestions.
