Uma Anyar Waterfall is a new waterfall in the village of Kemenuh, Gianyar, that has only recently been opened to the public. We stumbled upon this beautiful waterfall while searching for nearby Sumampan Waterfall, and we were not disappointed!
This gem of a waterfall has been known to locals for a long time. In the wake of Covid-19, they have decided to open it up to the general public in an attempt to bring in more tourist dollars. In our opinion, they have done every waterfall lover a favor as this is one of the most beautiful and photogenic falls you will find. Get up close and personal, wade in the fresh cool water and climb the rocks to the base of the falls themselves.

How to get to Uma Anyar Waterfall
Located just below Sumampan Waterfall in the village of Kemenuh, it is only a short ride from Ubud. The popular Tegenungan Waterfall is located only 5 minutes away, and this waterfall is certain to compete for the tourist dollar as travel opens up in the region. From Ubud, take JL. Raya Mas south and turn left onto JL. Raya Sakah. Only a few minutes ride down the road the village of Kemenuh opens up on your left and your will find signs to Uma Anyar Waterfall.
When we visited, we were actually searching for Sumampan Waterfall just 2 minutes further north. We came back to Uma Anyar next and couldn’t find the access as it had only just been opened 2 days earlier. We were one of the first visitors! A friendly local pointed us in the right direction, so don’t be afraid to ask for directions.
Wondering how to get around in Bali?
My suggestion is by Scooter. You can get anywhere on the island on a scooter, and you can easily hire one at this link. If you have an international driver’s permit, then you are set to go!
Your other option is to hire a car and a driver. You can get one right here, and organize your day out in air-conditioned comfort! Either way, you will enjoy your day and get to see a bit of this wonderful island.
As always, make sure that you have your Travel Insurance up to date as well.
Access to Uma Anyar Waterfall
When you arrive at Uma Anyar Waterfall you will find a donation box at the front entrance. Don’t forget to place a donation in the box on the way out, which will go toward maintenance of the path and access to the waterfall.
Park your scooter and take a guide from the local village if you can. The waterfall is easy to find and access is pretty straight forward, but there is a sign at the falls that you should have a guide, and until it becomes busier, we believe it is also a good idea. Our guide was able to tell us about the area, point out features we would never have noticed, and took amazing photos of us sitting in the falls themselves that we would never have been able to take on our own. He then waited around politely for as long as we liked as we enjoyed a swim and relax at the falls.
The path into Uma Anyar Waterfall has recently been cleared by locals. Grass has been cut and cleared by hand, and a local stone quarry that sits adjacent has been utilised to build a short section of beautiful stone stairs. In all, the path is only short when compared to other waterfalls in Bali, and the locals have made this access extremely easy to negotiate.
What to expect at Uma Anyar Waterfall
When we arrived at Uma Anyar Waterfall, we did not know what to expect. We had never heard of it, and only knew of it’s existence by a single sign on the road as we passed. The surprise that we got when we arrived cannot be overstated.
The Falls are a multi-level wonder that leave you standing in awe, wondering how you have never heard of them before. The path ends at the top of the second level, and is the perfect place to wade into the water and sit on top of the falls to pose for photos, or even just to enjoy the cool water as it flows around you and down the falls at your feet.
From there, you can turn and wade into slightly deeper water through the pool at the base of the first level of the falls. This is a beautiful place to cool off, and if you feel adventurous you can even climb the rocks to the very base of the falls themselves. The feeling of being able to get this close to a waterfall is extraordinary, because unlike many other falls this one does not plummet directly into a pool. Rather, it falls onto rocks and flows away toward the next level of falls below.
You can also cross the water flow and climb a few steps on the opposite bank where there is a swing in a tree that makes for a nice photo opportunity. You can also walk close to the waterfall on this side without having to swim or climb up the rocks.
Where to stay for Uma Anyar Waterfall
If you want to visit Uma Anyar Waterfall, and we definitely recommend it, then make certain to visit the other Falls in the area too. Sumampan Waterfall is so close it makes a perfect day to visit both of these wonders, and Tegenungan is only 5 minutes ride to the south. Both Uma Anyar Waterfall and Sumampen have been opened to openly compete with Tegenungan, and in our opinion will soon pass it in popularity.
The nearest center to Uma Anyar is Ubud, and it is definitely the best place to stay. We stayed in a beautiful place there and certainly recommend it was it was central to everything we wanted to do, such as these waterfalls and the Campuhan Ridge Trek. We will post links below.
So get along to Uma Anyar Waterfall when you can. It is one that cannot be missed by any waterfall lovers, and perfect for a family day trek.
