If you find yourself in Amed, Bali, and are traveling on a strict budget, then you’re most likely trying to not only find the best budget accommodation, but also where to eat in Amed that isn’t going to break the bank. Well, I’m here to help you out!
Bali has always been one of the most popular places to visit for those traveling on a budget. With it’s laid-back lifestyle, idyllic beaches and unique culture, travelers flock to its tropical shores from all over the world. In recent times though, the southern, more popular tourist areas have become overcrowded and more expensive than in the past. Hence, many of the savvier budget travelers have found places such as Amed in Bali’s still relatively unexplored Northeast. And while Amed is cheaper than elsewhere, it’s more popular places can still be on the more expensive side.
Whilst on a recent trip to Amed, I found that most articles online mention all the most popular places to eat, but nothing about being on a budget. So here are a few of the best options for where to eat in Amed on a budget, and a couple of my favorite, slightly higher priced ones thrown in that I just HAVE to recommend.
Baker Street Bali
Baker Street is one of those little gems that you’re so happy to find when traveling on a budget. I know from my time backpacking around Europe that bakeries were a salvation on many mornings! Baker Street in Amed isn’t any different and is one of my top selections when it comes to where to eat in Amed.
We visited on several mornings during our stay and have made it a place to stop now even when just passing through. Their coffee is amazing, probably the best we have had in Amed, hands down, which makes it a must visit in the mornings.
The other thing that makes Baker Street a winner is that their breads and pastries are not only delicious, but come at the price point of a bakery, rather than a cafe. Without that mark up, you can find a cheap breakfast every day, even if it’s just some freshly cooked bread sticks!

Warung Happy
Hands down the cheapest and nicest Nasi Goreng you’ll find in Amed!
If you’re looking for a truly local experience in Amed, then you can’t go past Warung Happy. Not many people searching for where to eat in Amed are going to find it, and if you do then you’re doing well.
This is because Warung Happy is small. It only has about four tables and is so tiny that I literally rode past it a dozen times before even seeing it! So, that basically makes it a gem that is hidden in plain sight.
A Nasi Goreng in Warung Happy will only set you back 20k Rupiah.

Warung Jempol
This little warung is really off the radar. We only found it when we checked into our resort nearby and then began searching for where to eat in Amed on foot. It was only just down the road and was an easy option for our first night.
Like Warung Happy, Warung Jempol is a truly local experience with prices pretty much the same. Their menu is slightly bigger though, and there are more tables, though that isn’t difficult! Warung Jempol also provides a cheap, budget option if you are staying at the eastern end of Amed.
One thing to beware of with both of the above warungs is that they are truly LOCAL. If you have a sensitive stomach, then be careful what spices or local sambal they use. But, for traveling on a budget, these are the cheapest places you will find for a meal in Amed.

Star Pizza
As a pizza nut, I’m always on the lookout for somewhere to satisfy those cravings. Indonesia has never been the best place to find good pizza, and usually you have to find a proper Italian restaurant to get some. Local places usually don’t offer the same quality, and reliance on locally priced ingredients is detrimental to the experience.
I stumbled upon Star Pizza when searching where to eat in Amed on my latest trip and was surprised to find it on the main road into town, meaning I’d ridden past it numerous times.
Star Pizza is pretty good as far as a local pizza joint goes. The prices are good when compared to proper Italian joints, so if you’re on a budget and have a craving, then it’s definitely worth checking out.

Gusto Resto and Cafe
Gusto Resto and Cafe is one of my entries to this list that is a little indulgent. You WILL splash a little extra money here than you will at a local warung, but what you get is top quality for what I would consider a medium price point.
The food at Gusto’s is top notch, and what you would expect from a really good Italian Restaurant. My favorite pizza in Bali by far is Ke Pizza in Nusa Dua, but I must say that this one came pretty close!
We were lucky on our visit to Gusto’s as we failed to make a booking. We visited in a quiet period, but still all the good tables were booked, and it was fortunate we were there early and could dine and leave before the reserved party turned up. With views from the dining balcony out over the ocean, the best tables are constantly displaying reserved signs!

Rimba
We only called into Rimba Cafe because so many people that we spoke to told us we simply couldn’t miss it! When a place has hype like that, you just have to take a look for yourself. Even if it’s just for a quick coffee.
Which is exactly what we did when we stopped at another cafe that turned out to be a huge disappointment (with drunk patrons spoiling the vibe) so we moved on to Rimba instead.
Rimba has an atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else in Amed, and possibly not even in Bali. It’s jungle theme has plants and greenery growing everywhere, and the air-conditioned space is inside a giant glass greenhouse.
Price wise, Rimba is a little more expensive, but I bit the bullet and tried the beef burger and have to say it was one of the nicest burgers I’ve had in Bali. So, worth the punt if you’re looking for where to eat in Amed and want to slightly spoil yourself when you’re on a budget.

Warung Meme
Last but not least is another little local Warung that has customers returning once they find it. Unpretentious and full of local charm, Warung Meme isn’t quite as cheap as Warung Happy or Jempol, but not far off. It’s also a lot more tourist friendly and appeals a lot more to foreigners that are after the local experience without taking too much risk!
Having said that, a Nasi Goreng is still really cheap for Amed prices, and portions are a good size which is important after a day of snorkeling or diving.
The other great thing about Warung Meme is that it provides that cozy, homely feel that you just love when eating food that feels home cooked, and has a cool shady feel to take the edge off those hot Bali days.

So, if you’re searching for where to eat in Amed, I’m sure that some of these places will get you out of trouble, especially if you’re on a budget. There are many, many restaurants to eat at that are amazing if money isn’t an issue, but for the budget traveler, especially check out Warung Happy, Warung Meme and Baker Street!
