Wondering how to get around in Bali?

My suggestion is by Scooter. You can get anywhere on the island on a scooter, and you can easily hire one at this link. If you have an international driver’s permit, then you are set to go! Your other option is to hire a car and a driver. You can get one right here, and organize your day out in air-conditioned comfort! Either way, you will enjoy your day and get to see a bit of this wonderful island. As always, make sure that you have your Travel Insurance up to date as well.

Munduk Itinerary – Day 1

To get you started on your Munduk Itinerary we are starting early, so warm up the car or jump on the scooter as the sun comes up and set your gps for this location.

Leke Leke Waterfall is one of the most gorgeous waterfalls on the island. It is nowhere near Munduk, but you will be driving right past it on the way so we can’t resist telling you to stop. It is not a long walk in and hardly any stairs, just a casual stroll through the village and rainforest.

This waterfall will long live as one of the favorites of anyone that takes the time to visit. A single stream of water flowing like a silver thread of silk, carving its way down to a small pool far below. Take the time to sit and soak in the feel of this place. It’s amazing.

Set in the most idyllic rainforest setting, you just cannot go wrong.

On the way out, if you are hungry, there is the most beautiful Babi Genyol on the island at the Leke Leke Waterfall turnoff. Try it out and let us know what you think. It’s one of our favorite Warungs on the Island!

From Leke Leke Waterfall keep heading north toward Bedugul. There are a lot of things to see in the Bedugul area, including the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. Stop here if you like, but we are going to get you to set your gps for Handara Gates.

You will recognise Handara Gates from a myriad of posts on Instagram, facebook and probably any advertising you might have seen of Bali in recent years. It is extremely popular, so if you want to get your photo taken at this iconic location, what better time than when you are already driving past.

If the lineup is too long, don’t worry, you will drive right past again on the way home and can opt to stop then, or even visit the temple if you like.

From here we will just set the gps for Munduk itself. This location is where we like to stay, and the itinerary will be designed around a stay here. It will work if staying at other places as well, so don’t worry.

Adila Warung and Homestay is our favorite Homestay on the island. We will tell you more about it in the link below, but right out of their back door is a path that leads down through the village to no less than 4 waterfalls!

Why do i travel, Munduk
Munduk, Bali

This afternoon we will get you to check in, then, when you are ready head down the path to Munduk Waterfall. This is also known to locals as Red Coral Waterfall, and is a very easy 15 minute stroll from the home stay. Simply turn right out of the back door and follow the path. You will get to a sign pointing left to two other waterfalls, but take the right hand path and the waterfall will appear within a couple of minutes.

Ok. That’s it for day 1 of our Munduk Itinerary. Tomorrow, let’s start nice and early again.

Day 2

Day 2 of our Munduk Itinerary will see you heading off straight after breakfast. You won’t even need the car, because once again we are heading out of the back door.

Head back down to that sign you saw yesterday and this time take the path toward the other waterfalls. Today we are visiting two waterfalls that are nice and close together. The first is Labuan Kebo Waterfall. This is a terrific waterfall with a few stairs to negotiate, but nothing too bad. Enjoy your time here, because the next one has a few more stairs.

Melanting Waterfall was one of the very first waterfalls we visited in Bali, and still holds a special place in our hearts. In fact, we have been back on 3 occasions so far.

Be ready for the stairs, though. This waterfall has 400 of them to negotiate, so when you get to the bottom, take your time and be ready for the climb back up again!

On your way into these two waterfalls you would have passed a couple of little warungs. If you need a drink, stop and enjoy one at either of these two places. In fact, one is actually a coffee shop. Otherwise, head back to Adila Home stay and grab some lunch, because we have another fantastic waterfall for the afternoon.

After lunch you have a choice. You can walk to this waterfall or drive. If you drive, the access is just down the road at this location. Just be warned that there is not too many spots to park along the road, and you would best be on a scooter.

Otherwise your other option is to hike about 45 minutes from the homestay. The walk isn’t very hard, but does involve some uphill. Believe us though the results are worth it.

Head out from Adila toward Munduk Waterfall once again. About 30m before you reach the signs, there is another path branching away up the hill. Take this path and follow the signs to Golden Valley Waterfall.

Golden Valley is actually on private land with a coffee plantation and two fantastic cafes. Sit in either cafe and enjoy the view of the Waterfall, or venture right down to the very base itself if you like.

Well, that’s it for day 2. Head home and enjoy your evening and the fantastic sunset at the Home Stay.

Munduk Itinerary Day 3

Day 3 on the Munduk Itinerary is a big waterfall day. We will be taking you to two epic waterfalls that you would have almost definitely heard of. There are a few surprises in here though.

First, set Gps for this location.

Banyu Mala Twin Waterfalls are becoming very well known by visitors to Bali, and are appearing all over Instagram for good reason. An amazing waterfall in it’s own right, it is actually dozens of little waterfalls cascading down a cliff that is a lot bigger than you think at first. At the bottom there is a beautiful pool that is perfect for a swim, and the whole area is set up for visitors, with change rooms and picnic areas.

Once you are done with Banyu Mala Twin Waterfalls, we are heading back out to the main road and 10 minutes further along. Gps for this location and look for the sign for Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall.

This waterfall is going to absolutely amaze you. And that’s not all! There are actually 4 waterfalls at this location, so get your walking shoes on.

For those that have had enough of stairs, there are no where near as many here, however the going IS all downhill. The difference is that it is a concrete path, and you will have the option of paying a local for a lift back up on the back of a scooter if you like.

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is the place that dreams are made. Literally, you will feel like you have walked into a fantasy land as you watch the waterfall cascade lazily over moss covered rocks into a dreamy swimming hole below. Enjoy your time here, and remember we have a couple more waterfalls before you leave.

Read this article for details on all of the waterfalls in this location, but do not miss the Spray Waterfall. This is a waterfall that really took us by surprise with it’s height, power and size. We had heard nothing about it and found it hard to actually leave!

Once you finally get out of this valley, head home and get ready for your last day.

Day 4

Ok, so you made it to the last day, and you are probably expecting to be heading straight home. Wrong!

Today set your gps for this location. You might notice that it is right in between the waterfalls you visited yesterday, and you won’t be wrong.

Wanagiri Pucak Manik Waterfall is another waterfall that took us by surprise. For the cost of admission you will get 3 waterfalls, depending upon the season.

When we visited we attempted to find out the names of all three Falls, however the only answer we got was that there was none! The first of the Falls you will see as you hike down. It is the tall waterfall and the one that you will see when you look up the location on Google. It is an impressive waterfall that falls into a very, very shallow pool. You can also walk right around behind it, so make certain to check out the very bottom while you are there.

The first waterfall you come to at this location is the best, in our opinion. In fact, it has become one of our favorite waterfalls in the whole of Bali. A little bit of Kanto Lampo, a bit of Banyu Wana Amertha, this waterfall is a dream to just sit and enjoy for as long as you can.

Wanagiri Puncak Manik Waterfall
Wanagiri Puncak Manik Waterfall

The third Fall is in between and although high, it pales in comparison to the others, and if in the dry season may not even be running. So take your time and enjoy, before you head back up the stairs to leave. There are a LOT of stairs here, so bring some water and remember that this is your last official stop, so you can enjoy the trip home afterward.

On the way home, remember there is Leke Leke Waterfall if you missed it, Handara Gates and Ulun Danu Beratan Temple. If you have the time and really want a treat, you could even check out Jatiluwih Rice Terraces.

We hope you enjoyed our Munduk Itinerary. This is the way we see all the waterfalls of Bali, and 40 waterfalls later we are still going!

Don’t forget to check the links below for accommodation, but we certainly have never gone past Adila Warung and Home Stay.

Where to stay for your Munduk Itinerary

Adila Warung and Home Stay – Fantastic people, Stunning views, Great facilities, awesome food. It doesn’t come any better for the price.

Ekommunity – for something a little different. Think – tents in trees….

Munduk Moding Plantation – located centrally, so the itinerary still works. Check out my review HERE.

For many more options, take a look at our handy Munduk accommodation map at the bottom of this article!

Travel Insurance

Last but not least, have you made certain your travel insurance is up to date?

It is surprising to know that not too many people put a great emphasis on travel insurance. Whether you are Hiking in Nepal or laying on a beach in Fiji, it is the one item that you just cannot do without. Also, you guessed it, chasing waterfalls in Bali. These waterfalls are mostly safe, with good defined access and well constructed stairs.

SafetyWing Banner

But accidents do happen.

During wet season things shift. Rocks around waterfalls can become green and slippery. Tracks become muddy and wet.

For all our travel insurance we always go with, and certainly recommend, SafetyWing. They made the whole process quick and easy, even allowing you to buy it when already overseas. Check out this link or any on our site, and remember, it’s not worth it NOT to have it!
