Green Bowl Beach is a hidden beach on the Bali Bukit, not too far from the very popular Melasti Beach. Only a very small beach, timing is the key for visitors, as it nearly disappears at high tide. Despite this, it is one of the most popular beaches in the area among locals and visitors that are in the know. Once you have visited, you will understand why Green Bowl Beach is kept such a closely guarded secret.

Where is Green Bowl Beach?
This beach is very easy to locate. Head to Ungasan on the Bali Bukit, which is on the road out to Uluwatu. Once you reach Ungasan, follow the signs toward Melasti Beach. Once you reach a point along the main road where you have to turn right to Melasti, continue straight and follow the road around to the left and keep heading down the hill until you get to the carpark for Green Bowl Beach. Alternatively, follow this link for Google Maps coordinates.
What to expect at Green Bowl Beach?
First, beware of the monkeys on the road in, and also at the carpark. They are not vicious, but all monkeys are mischievous, so don’t leave anything loose on your scooter or you will lose it! On the road in, they may be gathered across the road in groups, as this isn’t a highly trafficked road. Take your time.
On one occasion I was leaving Green Bowl Beach, and another visitor had lost the key to his scooter. I pulled over to help him push his bike up the hill. (it’s a LONG hill). By the time I got back to my scooter it was covered with monkeys. They were doing nothing wrong, just sitting and curiously watching the funny sweaty men pushing the scooter. Just beware that they WILL sit and climb on your scooter, so don’t leave anything loose laying around.
Once you reach the carpark beside the temple, you will find a couple of Warungs. If you don’t have any water, grab some here because ahead of you are over 300 concrete steps down to the beach. Before you heave a sigh, it is worth the hassle, because this beach is amazing.
As mentioned before, get to Green Bowl around low tide. At high tide the small strip of sand nearly disappears. At the right time of day, though, it is the most quiet and secluded little beach you will find. There are a couple of caves to shelter in, if you need to, and amazing rock pools to explore. The best part, though, is that feeling of exclusion and peace that all visitors to this beach fall in love with. This is a beach that is not too far away from the busy strip at Nusa Dua, yet is so isolated that it could be in a world all on its own!
For such a small beach, this is one that I keep coming back to. The location, size, restrictions with tide, and the 300 stairs make it perfect for keeping the crowds away. This is why you will only have to share it with a few others on most days.
What else is nearby to Green Bowl Beach?

What’s the best way to get to Green Bowl Beach?
The very best way to get around Bali is by scooter. I always recommend to anyone to hire a scooter when they visit. You can get to Green Bowl by car very easily, but why fight the traffic if you don’t have to?
To get a scooter in Bali you only need your local license from back home, and an International Driver’s permit. For more information, check out THIS article.
If you don’t feel confident riding a scooter, then you can always hire a driver and car. What better way to visit some of the most incredible places on the Bukit than in air conditioned comfort, being driving by a local Bali Guide! Check out THIS link for a great hire option.
